MOVIES
I love movies – both modern and classics (yes, especially the old black and whites). Ironically, Mike is from the production capital of California and yet he has never been a big movie person. So I’ve been trying to get him to watch some of those movies that EVERYONE has seen, along with just some of my favorites. Plus, we take turns with more modern movies. Following you will see our list of movies that we have seen recently. I may start to do reviews, but I haven’t decided yet. If you’d like to know about any of them, feel free to ask. I’d love to talk to you about them!
Movies Most Recently Watched (during 2009
)
- Tarzan the Ape Man 9-12-09 Have to love those back drops.
- Attonement 9-10-09 umm Don’t think I like this one.
- The River Wild 9-7-09
- The Courtship of Eddie’s Father 9-6-09
- Step Brothers 9-5-09 Mike Picked – Nuff Said. :O
- Father Goose 9-5-09
- December Boys 9-5-09
- Gremlins 8-28-09 Just as much fun, 25 years later.
- Mamma Mia 8-18-09 Chick flick at it’s best. Glad the man wasn’t around. lol
- JAWS 8-15-09 If he was hoping to get me in the ocean during our vacation next week, then he should never have made me watch this movie again!
- Please Don’t Eat the Daisies 8-11-09 A cute movie. Nothing spectacular.
- WarGames 8-11-09 Old School fun. lol Ultimate video geek nerd hacker flick.
- Houseboat 8-10-09 One of my favorite Cary Grant movies. Perfect family movie that hits the heart.
- Mr. Smith Goes to Washington 8-11-09
- My Favorite Wife 8-11-09 I could watch Cary Grant movies all day long.
- Snow Angels 8-7-09 This was the most boring & depressing movie EVER.
- Knights of the Round Table 8-5-09 Whether me or the picture, I didn’t watch chunks of it. Kind of got bored and wandered away during the middle.
- Soylent Green 8-3-09 Very bizarre story-line. However, in the humor category this gets a thumbs up! Nothing funnier than a supposedly futuristic movie with such “old” things like dial TV’s and riot gear helmets that were basically football helmets with visors! Funny stuffs.
- The Hunchback of Notre Dame 8-3-09 Maureen O’Hara was perfect in every role she ever played, in my opinion.
- Nights in Rodanthe 8-2-09 A moving story of love and finding yourself in mid-life.
- Bells are Ringing 7-28-09 A tale …. of all things…. Telephones and answering services. Back in the days before texting and cell phones.
- The Karate Kid 7-27-09 “Wax on – Wax off”. Nuff said! Grace even clapped at the end. So cute!
- Of Mice and Men 7-27-09
- Nell 7-26-09
- P.S. I Love You 7-25-09 Mike had a really hard time with the content of this movie. I think there may have been a little too much reality or possibility for him to consider it entertainment. I found it sentimental and romantic.
- Steel Magnolias 7-25-09 A big name tear jerker.
- Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead 7-23-09 Retro Classic. Loved it.
- West Side Story 7-22-09 Love the musical, but loved it more watching it with Gracie for her first time. As much as I dislike the High School Musical movies, I suppose I’ll have to just thank them for giving her an interest in musicals in general!
- Shane 7-16-09 Without a doubt, one of the best (and my favorite) Westerns every made.
- Wings of the Navy 7-12-09 The movie itself was so-so. However, for aviation buffs, I would suppose the range of aircraft of the time would be the big draw to this film.
- The Cable Guy 7-11-09 Can you believe this is the first time I ever saw this one? You know what? I STILL hate Jim Carey’s acting. Annoying!
- Marnie 7-8-09 Never saw this Hitchcock movie before. Definately liked it. Sean Connery was as handsome as ever.
- Adam’s Rib 7-8-09 Classic Hepburn and Tracy.
- The Doors 7-6-09 What can say? Drugs took yet another major talent.
- Marley and Me 7-5-09 Sweet movie about man and his bff (and family).
- The Shop Around the Corner 7-3-09 The original “You’ve Got Mail!”, but in typical old Hollywood style. A charming movie.
- The Sound of Music 7-1-09 I had forgotten how very good this movie can make me feel. A story of hope in a setting of fear. And the music is just delightfull.
- The Last Templar 6-31-09 An entertaining albeit unrealistic tale of an archeologist who gets caught up in trying to find the treasures of the Last Templar.
- In the Heat of the Night 6-30-09 Two law officers of different color are forced to work together during lingering southern racism to find a murderer. During the search, they may not irradicate racism, but they do lean to respect one another.
- Lolita 6-29-09 A middle aged man falls for a 14 yr sexually charged young girl. Rather risque storyline for an old black and white film. Disturbing in some ways.
- Deception 6-28-09 Very dark, very slow, kinda boring. But it DID have Hugh Jackman – that counts for SOMEthing, right? lol
- Elizabeth I 6-25-09 I felt this version to be much superior than Elizabeth: The Golden Age. Helen Mirrin gave a believable and very human portrayal of the amazing Queen Bess.
- Kelly’s Heroes 6-22-09 WWII flick from the 1970’s. All star cast. Great story. Even though he unnerves me a bit, Donald Sutherland plays a fantastic “Oddball”.
- Kit Kittdredge: An American Girl 6-19-09 Didn’t have high hopes for this movie. However, it was done well and was quite entertaining. Great family time movie. We all enjoyed it.
- La Bamba 6-18-09 Haven’t watched this in years, but still loved it. Love the music and the fact that it relives a small piece of my family history. Ritchie died along with Buddy Holly & JP Richardson aka “The Big Bopper” who was a distant cousin of my Gram’s.
- Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants 2 6-14-09 Enjoyed that this sequell wrapped up the first storyline tightly. It’s a feel good girl movie.
- What’s Love Got to Do with It? 6-8-09 Angela Bassett portrays Tina eerily.
- The Fighting 69th 6-5-09 WWI movie featuring the predominantly NY Irish regiment of the Army.
- The Mambo Kings 6-4-09 I love the energy of the music in this movie. This is an unusual movie, in that while there is a tradition love story, the real love story is the bond between two brothers.
- Bait 5-17-09 For a typical guy movie (Mike’s pick), there was a good deal of humor written in which kept me interested. Even the storyline was a little more interesting than a lot of the movies of this type.
- Diner 5-17-09 Coming of age movie for a handfull of new actors. Fun to see so many faces sooo young. Overall, though, kind of so-s0. However, being a Jersey girl, I can certainly relate to the “diner” itself being a character in the movie.
- Remember the Night 5-15-09 1940’s romantic comedy with a dark side.
- Letters from Iwo Jima 5-7-09 As always, we see the tale of war as a necessary evil. as well as the disparity of the human condition when faced with the horrors of war. A gut-wrenching tale, but definately worth watch. Eastwood did a remarkable job finding the souls of the characters portrayed.
- Grey Gardens 5-5-09 What an unusual pair of women. I just wonder how much of this is truth. *PS* Just found out this was based on a 70’s documentary. I’d love to see that as well to compare.
- What Lies Beneath 5-4-09 If you like suspense, this one rocks. I was under the covers! lol
- The Fighting Seabees 5-3-09 A WWII romance with the subplot of the formation of the US Civil Engeneers. A motivational war movie. AND we see John Wayne dance.
- The Secret Life of Bees 5-3-09 A good cast of characters.
- Heist 4-24-09 (Mike picked) Typical guy movie – unbelievable. lol
- Cimarron 4-23-09 Although critics way back when panned the movie, we enjoyed it. A hearty old time western adventure about the Oklahoma land run and it’s settlement. Not as modernly romantic as Far and Away, but still a decent flick.
- The Children’s Hour 4-21-09 This movie was incredible. It’s story line dealt with conspiracy, lies, friendship, love and relationships. There was also an alluded to but not confirmed lesbian affair, which for the times I found to be very forward. Definately worth the watch.
- Easy Rider 4-19-09 I just don’t understand why people said this was a good movie. ICK
- Pygmalion 4-16-09 Remarkably the same as My Fair Lady – just without the music. I fell asleep to be honest – Just one of those nights.
- To Sir, with Love 4-7-09 I used to see passion and caring in teachers like that. Not so much anymore. It’s sad really.
- From Here to Eternity 4-7-09 Burt Lancaster may have starred in it, but Mongomery Clift not only stole the show by WOW How hot was he?
- Fool’s Gold 4-6-09 Silly, lighthearded & not very good. But, mmm Matthew lol
- Taking Chance 4-5-09 An HBO movie. Very moving and emotional. Made me feel like people really do care!
- Rev0lutionary Road 4-4-09 OMG This sucked ! Horribly depressing.
- Bell Book and Candle 4-4-09 A time filler. Though I did learn that this was Jimmy Stewart’s last romantic lead. He felt he was getting to old to pull it off.
- Miss Annie Rooney 3-10-09 What’s not to like about Shirley Temple’s first on screen kiss?
- Slumdog Millionaire 3-16-09 I didn’t think I would like this movie when Mike brought it home. It was much better than I originally thought. I liked how they tied the boy’s past experiences in with the game show. Creative.
- Cars 3-15-09 (Grace’s pick – cute though)
- The Philadelphia Story 3-13-09
- The Three Faces of Eve 3-8-09 Ironically, right after seeing this, we saw a news story about the possibility of MPD being a fabricated disease and they used clips from this movie as a lead in to the clip.
- Love is a Many Splendored Thing 3-1-09 A classic love story; The man even enjoyed it.
- La Passion de Bernadette 3-1-09 Have always been Fascinated by her story.
- My Fair Lady 2-28-09 One of my FAVORITE musicals of all times. I love Audrey Hepburn and the costumes are magnificent.
- Flower Drum Song 2-27-09 Interesting love story, in full old hollywood style.
- Lakeview Terrace 2-23-09 Full of Suspence! Probably hokey in some ways, but kept our interest.
- Defiance 2-15-09 Very good. I’ve never seen this side of WWII.
- Forgetting Sarah Marshall 2-14-09 One or two chuckles, otherwise so-so.
- The Wrestler 2-9-09 Mickey Rourke gave an Excellent and totally believable performance remarkably parallel to the actor’s own life!
- Gran Torino 1-26-09 BEST MOVIE I’VE SEEN IN A LONG TIME! Dry humor, suspense, dramatic story line and believablity in the main character’s role.
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 1-25-09 Weird Movie – very weird.
- College Road Trip (Grace’s Pick) 1-17-09 Cute in a non-thinking sort of way.
- Batman: The Dark Knight (Mike Picked) 1-10-09 Should have been titled The Joker, IMO, as Heath Ledger stole the spotlight and the show.
- Burn After Reading (Mike Picked) 1-4-09 Not my cup of tea. Took way too long to get the gist of this story.
- Batman (the old 1966 version – definately a good laugh) 1-4-09

* These movies are fantastic! I (and my husband) absolutely loved them. If you enjoyed the good old-fashioned values of the Little House on the Prairie TV series, these are very reminiscent. There is a heart warming Christian undertone, but not in an in your face sort of way. They are family viewing at its’ best. Go ahead, Give them a try.
